Oomorock Records interviewed "The Dirty Strikes" , a new band which has hit the rock scene of Manipur harder than ever with their self composed tracks. They have been continuously playing gig around Imphal and various other places of North East India. They are releasing their first EP on 24th April.
1. When was it formed?
The Dirty Strikes : It was formed on Jan 2 2010.
2. Who are the members?
TDS : Kennedy, Tom, Bom, Naoba, Uma
3. What inspires you to make music? who are ur influences?
TDS : Music seems to be in our blood. In early days we grew up listening to bands like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Doors.
We are infuenced mostly by The Strokes, Kings of Leon and The Jet.
4. what do you sing about? is it related to the restlessness that your generation face today in manipur?
TDS : The Dirty Strikes song speak about the present environment of Manipur in particular song called ''Like a puzzle'' its all about the chaos we see in Imphal.
Yup Its is related to som extent.
5. What do you think of contemporary music scene in Imphal?
TDS : Music scene in Imphal is growing as most of the bands are trying to express their thoughts feeling through their original songs.
6. how do you define Indie music as u call ur band an indie band?
TDS : Independent music, often shortened to indie music or "indie", is a term used to describe independence from major commercial record labels and an autonomous, Do-It-Yourself approach to recording and publishing.
6. When is ur EP coming out?
TDS : 24th April.
7. Any future plan?..
TDS : Planning to perform in all major cities of India.
8. do you think u can earn bread and butter doing music in manipur...or you have plans to come out of manipur and reach out to a larger crowd?
TDS : Music can be sustained by bread alone but butter comes once in a while. For us we want to reach out musically with our songs to a global stage.
9. what do you suggest for upcoming rockers?
TDS : Be yourself, dedication, Devotion and action to ur genre or music and dont do drugs.
